Hyderabad: 12 counters to ease Income Tax returns filing
Hyderabad: In a bid to ease the filing of I-T returns by the taxpayers, the Income Tax Department has set up 12 counters for the verification of preliminary details like Permanent Account Number (PAN), assessing office code among others. These counters came up after the IT Department decided to accept the returns for the current year only at the Ayakar Bhavan at Basheerbag.
The last date of filing the returns is July 31. Chief commissioner IT (II) JK Hota advised the assessees to quote correct PAN, the bank account and its MICR code. The refunds, if any, below Rs 25,000 will be directly credited into the bank accounts of assesees instead of cheques.
The IT official said that state corporations like AP Beverages Corporation, Housing Board, HMDA and FDC were among the top tax defaulters, however, he also added that several cases on IT payments of these corporations were pending before the appellate
The number of returns received during the last week of July, 2011 were 1,17,996. This year 40 lakh returns are expected, of which the department has already received about 35,000 returns. till date. On the searches conducted on firms of YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the official said that Jagan had paid some amount and the cases relating to various other files were in the process of investigation.
In 2011-12 refund claims were received for 2.79 lakh cases.
