India is scheduled to take part in the 2012 Olympics to be held in London from 27 July to 12 August 2012. The Indian government spent over INR 250 crores in preparing for the games, including around INR 20 crores on foreign coaches for various events. India has sent an 81-member athlete team for 13 Different sports events to London.

The first Independent Indian participation in Olympics occurred in 1948.The first Indian Olympian medalist was Norman Pritchard.The first gold medal for India was won by the National Indian hockey team in the 1928 Olympic Games held in Amsterdam. India’s Olympic participation history is dominated by the country’s proven skill in hockey. The Indian Olympic hockey team won 11 medals in 12 Olympiads.Indian Athletes had won a total of 20 medals which include 9 Gold medals since participation.
