3 - Simply amazing

Expectations ran sky-high. For the simple fact that 3 brings together daughter of Super Star Aishwarya (director). Kamal haasan's daughter Sruthi and National-award winning actor Dhanush coming together. Also the success of the song Kola veri made whole world look at the film with bated breath.

Aishwarya's maiden sojourn as director promises aplenty. A breezy first half followed by a totally different post-intreval sequences. Her deft in handling a sensitive theme deserves accolades. Dhanush plays with command his complex character. Sruthi gives him able company. Anirudh, the music composer, proves that there is much beyond Kolaveri in 3. Good songs and catchy background score.

Story

The movie is anbout theromantic escapades between Ram (Dhanush) and Janani (Shruthi) who are higher secondary students. There is everything in their love. They live and love each other. There are moments in their love that creates trouble for both. There is miss and go. What goes steadily in the company of friends takes a different route in second part. Things change for worse. The film ends up a psychological thriller

Performance

Dhanush has literally lived the character. He is breezy as a school student. His pranks to get the attraction of Sruthi deserve accolades. His emotions, outbursts, anger and agony have added strnegth to the script.

Sruthi Haasan is not far behind. The petite actress does chip in with her best. She as a college student does her job well. She is good in song sequences. Sruthi's emotional outbursts deserve special mention. Especially in the second half she matches Dhanush scene-by-scene.
The rest of the star cast including Siva Karthikeyan, Prabhu, Bhanupriya and Sundar chip in with their best.

Technicalities

The movie has top notch technicians coming together. Oscar winner Resul Pookutty sound effects adds pep and zing to the scenes. The cinematography is top-notch. It has a say in the script. Anirudh who made it big with Kola veri song has proved that there is more to it in the film. There is catchy melodies, heart-wrenching background score et al.
Velraj's cinematography and Kola baskar's crisp editing is apt.

Analysis

The movie has stupendous visuals. Nice narration. More in the flashback mode. Aishwarya's stamps his authority all through. She has firm grip over the medium. The two halves of the movie are contrasting to each other. They ensure that they get our due attention. But sadly the suspense fizzles out in the opening scene itself making it little more predictable.

Score : 3/5
